The Scheme was first established in 1987 by The New Zealand Fire Service Commission, as the sponsor and the New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union. While the Scheme has changed over the years, our purpose remains the same – to help FENZ employees enjoy retirement and have financial peace of mind.
Today, the New Zealand Fire Service Superannuation Scheme, commonly referred to as FireSuper, supports members financially by offering four investment options, an enhanced top up benefit for eligible members, and various withdrawal options for different circumstances.
The scheme is managed by FireSuper Trustee Limited. There are seven directors of the trustee, three appointed by FENZ, three appointed by the New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union and an independent trustee director appointed by these six trustee directors.
